If you are looking to lose weight by bike riding there are a few things you will need to be sure of before you start. The first would be to ensure your bike is in good working order. Have one of the people from your local bike shop go over it and ensure it is working properly.

If you don't have a bike or are going to need a new one, make sure you are getting one that doesn't just look nice, but is a good solid bike that can go the distance, literally.

You will want to be sure your tires are good, filled to the proper pressure and that your seat and handlebars are in the proper position. Always make sure your breaks are in working order and that you have lights on your bike if you will be riding at night.

Now that the obvious is out of the way, what about clothes? Well, as long as it is comfortable and won't get caught in the chain, wear what you want to. Make sure you have a water bottle attached to your bike filled with nice cold water and that you have a bike helmet. Wearing a bike helmet isn't just for kids, it is for your safety as well.

Now it is time to ride! The best thing you can do is find some hills to really push yourself. Maybe take a drive around in your car before you take to your bike. Keep track of the miles you are driving and map out your route ahead of time. Stretch your muscles before and after riding. Bike riding to lose weight is a terrific way to go, just make sure you do it safely!
